Asking String Theorists the Wrong Question, Or a Non Question, Or a good Question?

Is the field of string field theory (SFT) meant to be identical to the mind and language (and theory/model) independent entity as the field of quantum field theory, or are they so different that they are not just two ways of describing the same thing, but necessarily have to be distinct? Read responses from physicists here. What is the ontological status of the combined quantum field (all quantum fields including those in their vacuum/ground state) and the String field of string theory? Are they the same thing? In other words - from an instrumentalist perspective are String Field Theory and QFT just different theoretic instrumental reprsentations of the same thing, or are the differences in each theory indicative of fundamentally different prospective natural kinds? What about for the non-instrumentalist scientific realist and ontic strucural realist?
